Children’s Tests

Good eyesight is essential in making sure your child develops to their full potential both at school and socially. Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear glasses. However, some eye conditions do not display any signs or symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to take your child for a sight test.

Some of the signs which may show there is a problem with a child’s sight include:

  • An eye appearing to turn in, out, up or down
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Behavioural problems
  • Frequent headaches
  • Sitting too close to the television
  • Screws up eyes when reading or watching television
  • Fails to make expected progress at school
  • Frequent eye rubbing or blinking a lot

Eye tests for children under 16 (or under 19 and in full time education) are free on the NHS. Our aim is to ensure your child can see to the best of their ability.

Your child does not have to be able to read or talk to have a sight test as we use a range of techniques and modern equipment to detect visual problems at any age.

At Peter Smith Opticians, we stock a wide range of glasses for children including Zoobug, Erin’s World and Tomato Glasses UK.  This allows us to specialise in spectacles designed for very young children and babies.

For more information or advice on choosing spectacles for your child, please call us on 01386 553922 to make an appointment.
